This album has a couple of purposes. First of all, it is intended as a sort of tribute to rave. When I first started writing music in 1994, I was trying to catch the essence of the sounds that I loved. As I recall, the track that started me off was The Prodigy's "Out Of Space". When I first heard it I just thought Fuck me! I wish I could write something like that... So I tried and failed hideously. Those early tracks were really a sort of chaotic, impressionistic jumble, but they kept me occupied for years as I gradually taught myself the basics of music and developed my own sound. I've done old school rave tracks sporadically ever since and this album is a half-bright attempt at catching that vibe.

Secondly, it's a sort of affirmation of my continuing belief in the idea of rave. I'm a very idealistic person and I think its hard to conceive of a finer set of ideals than those found in rave: love, peace, freedom and unity. That, to me, is what hardcore is all about. It's got nothing to do with speed, aggression, and abrasive sounds - they are mere superficialities and can be easily faked. I believe that every sort of music (and more generally, every kind of culture) has a set of underlying ideals and that the hardcore are those who understand this and live by those ideals.

So, to the hardcore, whoever they are and wherever they may be - respect!

Respect also to all the old skool, both underground and overground - including, but not limited to: 2 Bad Mice, 2 Unlimited, 808 State, Acen, Adamski, Altern-8, Awesome 3, Baby D, Baby Ford, Bass Selective, The Beloved, Bizarre Inc, Black Box, Blame, B-Sides, Cappella, Carl Cox, Coldcut, Cosmo & Dibs, Criminal Minds, Culture Beat, Dance Conspiracy, Desired State, D Mob, Ellis Dee, Engineer's Revenge, Essence Of Aura, DJ Excel, Fast Eddie, FBI Project, Foul Play, Frankie Knuckles, General Base, Guru Josh, Hackney Hardcore, Hithouse, House Crew, Humanoid, Hyper On Experience, Ice MC, Inner City, Interactive, Joey Beltram, Joe Smooth, Jonny L, JX, The KLF, Krome & Time, Lemon D, Moby, New Decade, N-Joi, Nookie, N-Trance, The Prodigy, QFX, Ragga Twins, DJ Rap, Ratpack, Rebel MC, Red Alert & Mike Slammer, Rhythm Section, Richie Rich, Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, Royal House, Rozalla, Satin Storm, Scooter, Shades Of Rhythm, The Shamen, Shut Up And Dance, Shy FX, Slipmatt, SL2, Snap, Sonz Of A Loop Da Loop Era, DJ Sy, Tango & Ratty, Technohead, Technotronic, Top Buzz, Ultra-Sonic, Wax Doctor, Westbam, Yazz, Zero B
