This EP is the result of an idea that I'd had in mind for quite some time: doing an atmospheric soundtrack. My first attempt faltered with the first track, but as often happens, I sort of found myself working on this unconsiously for some months. Basically, without having the aim of an EP in mind, I wrote three tracks - two of which - "Zombie Flesh" and "The Dead Arising" were actually written for Sir to use. "Theme For A Vampire" came about at the suggestion of someone on Soundclick who had this idea of everyone writing a vampire themed track for a tourney. As far as I recall, only me and Breakbeatpimp did anything though.
It really started coming together when I decided to give this soundtrack idea another go, and wrote "The Castle". This really set me off and the rest of the EP (apart from the last two bonus tracks) were written over the course of the next 3-4 days. It was only then that I realised the earlier tracks would fit and then promptly nicked them for myself.... mwahahaha!
I have to admit, I'm dead chuffed with this EP: it's definitely one of the best things I've done, as far as melodies are concerned. It's good to just cut loose from the real world and just do something for the sheer fun of it every once in a while.
Again, this EP is technically commercial. The links are to early mixes of the tracks. The full release version is a bit smarter in the production department and has three spanking bonus tracks which really help round off the EP... after all, how could I write a gothic horror themed EP without at least giving a nod to ghosts and dark, forbidding forests....?
All tracks written, recorded, mixed, produced by Neil O'Brien, except "Zombie Flesh", lyrics and vocals by UCallMeSir. Art work by Neil O'Brien. The photos were taken at Grangetown Cemetery in Sunderland.
Here's a wee treat for ya: it's a short story I wrote a while back. It was intended as a sort of old skool gothic horror piece so in some respects the style is a bit archaic (even cheesy). It does get better as it goes on though. Honest. ;)

Also, there is now a video for "Theme For A Vampire".
